LAMATA acquires six (6) new trains to boost the operations of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line services.

Says that the trains sets, which have scaled the factory acceptance testhurdle, are scheduled for shipment to Lagos from China.

Lagos Blue Line currently runs 72 trips per day. The procurement of these 3 rolling stock is expected to increase the trips.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced the procurement of six (6) new rolling stocks to boost the operations of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red line train services.

LAMATA made this known via a statement on its social media platforms on Thursday. It added that the six trains sets are scheduled for shipment to Lagos from China.

“Six additional train sets will be in Lagos very soon to strengthen the capacity of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red Lines to deliver value to commuters and thereby increase the economic viability of the state.”

Lagos Blue Line Transports 2.37 Million Passengers Safely In 15 Months - autojosh

The first phase of the electrified Lagos Blue Line spans 13 kilometers from Marina to Mile 2. Since the start of commercial operations on September 4th 2023, it has successfully transported 2.37 million passengers.

The Lagos Blue Line currently runs 72 trips per day. But the procurement of the three additional rolling stocks is expected to increase the daily trips.

“The addition of the train sets to the Blue Line rolling stock will increase the number of train trips along the corridor and will be deployed for passenger operation to Okokomaiko when phase two of the Blue Line is completed.”

“It is projected that the construction of the phase two from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, about 14 kilometres in length, will be completed within the first quarter of 2027 and passenger operations extended to Okokomaiko shortly after.”
